Gangrene Prevention
Gangrene is the decay or death of tissues due to injury or disease. Most often if affects the outer extremities like fingers, toes, and limbs, but it can occur in muscles or internal organs. Treatment options for gangrene include surgery and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Symptoms of gangrene in affected tissues include blue or black discoloration of the skin; severe pain followed by numbness in the area; and putrid discharge. If the dying tissues are located under the skin the area might be swollen and painful, accompanied by fever.
Those most at risk for developing gangrene are people with diabetes and circulatory system diseases, like atherosclerosis. Diabetes and atherosclerosis can both interrupt the blood flow that is vital to keeping your cells healthy by damaging the arteries and other blood vessels. Hardened, narrowed, or damaged blood vessels can constrict or eventually cut off blood supply to an area, putting you at risk for developing gangrene.
To prevent gangrene and maximize blood flow throughout your body, try oral chelation therapy. The EDTA chelator clears your arteries and blood vessels of harmful plaque deposits and increases circulation. Better blood flow will promote better health throughout your body and help you manage your conditions. Take chelation therapy at home as part of a heart healthy lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and exercise.
